QGate is a software company and Microsoft partner with a content-rich website spanning product information, resources and lead-generation journeys. I rebuilt the platform around a headless WordPress architecture, keeping WordPress familiar for content editors while giving the public site a faster, more flexible frontend.
I built the frontend with Eleventy and Nunjucks, consuming WordPress content through the REST API at build time and deploying the static site to Netlify. This separated the presentation layer from the CMS and allowed the site to be optimised around performance, reliability and maintainable templates.
A headless CMS normally leaves editors without a faithful preview of the public site. To solve that, I designed and built a bespoke WordPress block theme and component library that mirrored the frontend. Content editors could build pages from reusable blocks and see an accurate representation before publishing.
I managed data migration, page templates, structured metadata, Open Graph data, XML sitemaps and form integration. I also applied keyboard-friendly navigation, semantic HTML and sensible ARIA patterns. Git and GitHub provided a dependable workflow for managing changes and development iterations.
I worked directly with marketing stakeholders to clarify requirements, explain technical decisions and make progress visible. Breaking the work into staged releases made it easier to handle dependencies, prioritise the most valuable improvements and resolve blockers early.
